UK Government announces incentive to buy low-carbon cars

Beginning in January 2011, the UK Government will grant motorists up to £5,000 towards purchase of an ultra-low carbon car, it announced this week. The consumer grant will reduce the up-front cost of eligible vehicles by 25 per cent, capped at £5,000. Available across the UK, it will be open to both private and business fleet buyers.

Feedback from delegates suggests that the conference was an important success. A main output from the conference was “ten key messages” for Government (and the wider public sector) about behaviour change.

In February 2010, the Scottish Government commissioned the Independent Budget Review Panel, Crawford Beveridge CBE, Sir Neil McIntosh CBE and Robert Wilson, to carry out a review of public expenditure in Scotland by end July 2010. Thursday, 29 July the report was published. It sets out a series of options which the Scottish Government and Parliament may want to consider in the face of the most challenging public spending environment since the Second World War.
